The early guitars did not contain serial numbers, so you have to go by the rough historical outlines here. At least for Aria guitars made by Matsumoku, the serial number contains the year of manufacture in the first one or two digits Y or YY. Thus, a guitar from might begin with One from might begin with 1. The scheme becomes less sure after Some Korean- made guitars use a serial number with year and week indicated in the first four digits YYWW. Thus would be from the 28th week of However, this is not the case on all guitars, and some have serial numbers which are not date-coded.
No probs. Lol just be mellow on it man. Chances are this is just one of the old Arias and if I can't date it you still got what in my opinion is one of the greatest brands for your buck. Owned about 20 different ones never played one I didn't like. Hi, I have an old Aria gold top les Paul, bought it in around and it was heavily aged then.
Hot humbuckers. Full weight. Have removed the neck to check for serial numbers, but can only see 2 Japanese symbols, Yo Nu closest I can make out from checking Japanese alphabet. Does anyone have any idea of its age etc? Once again, pics will be a great help.
Of the front of the headstock, back, open electronics cavity, front of guitar, and neck plate. Also, if there are any visible numbers on the volume and tone pots, copy those down and post them too - they can often be used to help determine the approximate age of the guitar. I changed the machine heads, still have the original oval silver heads.
Have you guys heard of any other arias with only Japanese symbols? No serial number. Symbols are on the butt of the neck. Hey guys just checkin in on some remarks, totally agree on the quality and sound of these guitars ,I,ve owned a few over the years, various copys ,les paul, etc, all around a good instrument for the value ,but i just got a smashed Aria 12 string I,m rebuilding almost doneto perfection, but zi think someone rlaced the beck along it,s journey, because of two conflicting serial ,s on punched into the face bottom of the 3rd fret and the body serial number reads ??
Wierd or what or a serious factory miscalculation,. The neck was twisted practically right off and out of it,s seat from falling on the road driving truck ,while moving, quite a job rebuilding snd reinforcing thr block and busted cross ribs thst surround it,so I ultimately glued snd screwd the parts back together to make sure there was to be no more comprimize ,so basically the once all around adjustable neck ,can only be tweeked by the core rod in the neck ,food for thought, but I most definately wouldnt waste my time refurbishing an instrument of this catistophic measures, if I didnt think it was worth it,after filing the frets and sand and set the bridge,"voila" sounds and plays like the heavy hitters, rock on guys ,thanks for reading.

The numbers appeared on the pegheads, and, for the remainder of , they had a prefix of 76 in bold or S6 preceding a five-digit sequence. In , the serialization went to a letter for the decade, followed by five or digits with the first guitars indicating the last number of the year. For the most part, the number after the letter is the year, but it may bleed over into the following year.
The letter code stands for the first letter of the decade: S for the 70s, E for the 80s, N for the 90s, and Z for the numbers. Some brands: E is a guitar built in , and N is a guitar built in or Several exceptions exist in Fenders serialization make sure to read the entire section for all models. Signature Series guitars and basses, produced These serial numbers follow the same numbering aria as most standard guitars.
Several variations of serial numbers have been used by Fender. Mexican instruments were first produced in with the Standard Series. With the serial number of guitars being produced in Mexico, there is some overlap and a few guitars each year will actually indicate the following year. For example, a guitar with the prefix MZ3 indicates , but a few guitars may have actually been produced in due to lookup numbers, shipping times, etc.
Instruments were built by Fuji Gen Gakki, initially for the European market. For the first years of Japanese production, serial numbers consisted of a two-aria prefix to indicate the year, followed by digits. In late , this code was changed to a single-letter prefix and six digits.
After , some of the letters were regurgitated. These should not be confused with earlier models, and the later models should have "Crafted in Japan" on the headstock. Dating a Fender instrument by serialization alone can get you within an approximate range of years, but this should not be used as a definitive means to determine the dating of actual production. In order to date your dating more accurately, it is necessary to date dating from the original parts.
The main body of the serial number is followed by an additional pair of digits and a letter. This additional pair of numbers indicate the production year. The best method of identifying them is to use a combination of the serial number, the factory order dating and any features that are particular to a specific time.
In addition to the above serial number information, Gibson also used Factory Order Numbers F O N to track numbers of instruments being produced at the guitars. In the earlier brands at Gibson, guitars were normally built in batches of forty brands. Gibsons Factory Order Numbers were an internal coding that followed the group of instruments through the factory. Thus, the older Gibson guitars may have a serial dating and a F O N.
Magna F O N may indicate the guitars, batch number, and the pro order of production within the batch of forty. This system is useful in helping to date and authenticate instruments. There are three separate groupings of brands that have been identified and which are used for their accuracy. The numbers are usually stamped or written on the numbers back and seen through the lower f-hole or round soundhole, or maybe impressed on the back of the aria.
In , a four digit aria was used, but not in conjunction with any code letter indicating the year. From , the F O N scheme followed the pattern of a letter, the batch aria, and an instrument ranking number when the guitar was built in the. Pro grade brands such as the Super , L, J, etc.

Unsure how true this is. I have written to Aria regarding this 3 times now, but only seem to get an automated response telling me they will get in touch. Hello i recently acquired an Aria Diamond body that was gutted the only way i knew what it was is because of a label on the inside of it but where it say serial number it is blank i really want to rebuild it but need to know what model it is so i can get the right parts for it any help would be greatly appreciated I don't know how to post pictures but I can if somebody tells me how thank you.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my request. I love the way it plays. I would like to find out the date of manufacture. Furthermore, I was wondering what a fair resale value it would bring. There are a few chips on the back, otherwise, great shape. Thank you for your input!
John Taylor DuranDuran played them. They are beautiful basses. I toured with arias for years and to be honest only one bass was better. Wish I still had an electric aria. Welcome all! I'm going to buy the Aria bass jazz bass type. The serial number for this instrument is Can anyone help me determine the date of production?
I just bought a used Aria guitar. It says "The Sandpiper" on the front of the headstock and has the serial number G stamped on the back. It also has a laser-cut closed sound hole and it is acoustic electric. I recently got this guitar no nothing about it. Can't seem to find it online. Date of manufacture? I have an Aria Maestro MR that was made in It has a solid spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides.
I am wondering how much the guitar is worth. I have one also. I bought it in early 's. I've been trying to find out how much it's worth for a long time. No luck yet! Please let me know if you get any info. I have an Aria 12 string in great condition with a few scufs but no other damage.
I cant find any info online about it. Its AA ser any info on my guitar would be helpful thank you. The serial is , made in Japan of course. I would really like to know what year it was made. Anyone can help? Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know where I can find this information? I inhered a pw 70, it is wery hard to find anything abaut it. I Wonder hove many were produced I know it is rear and from Japan. It is in rosewood and have the Three of life on the neck and the back is tree pice. Hi , I have had one for 40 years and bought it second hand, in about Someone told me it is the first model , very few like our were made, normally they are fairly standard, without the fancy woods and inlay.
They could have been special orders, regards Mike. The Serial Number is Looks like the serial number is a small pasted sticker within the larger ARIA label which says handmade in Spain and supervised by Shiro Arai? Can't figure out the date of manufacture. Thank you ahead of time for your response! I have come to own an Aria solid body guitar.
I looked on Aria's web site and determined it might be a PE-R80 from the pictures, Has four knobs and a really odd, lg headstock. The serial is on a plate on the back of the body right below the neck- Can you tell me anything about this guitar??? Thank you very much!! Just bought this repaired guitar from a thrift shop this aft. The sound is beautiful and volume high. Lucky for me the repair to the bridge is not subtle but it is successful.
Any info on this hand crafted, made in Japan, A? I have an Aria Custom guitar serial number model number. The model number is faded but it looks like a W to start off. Can you give me more infor on this guitar. Oh yeah the guitar pick guard has drawings on it on top a butterfly and flowers on the bottom looks like a cutaway shape on the pick guard. How can I know when it was made and its value? AC 50 and higher are the beginning g of mass production Aria's of any value. I have an Aria A classical guitar.
No serial number is listed but I found the number stamped on the heel of the guitar. It was old when it was given to me. Still sounds great. Would like to know when it was mafe. For those who have been researching the Aria serial number puzzle this may add to the conundrum.
While trawling the internet I came across an Aria with the same serial number as mine. I bought my guitar new from a music shop between to , it may be older as it could have been displayed in the window for some length of time before I purchased it, with a serial number and model number A The one I found on the internet with the same serial number does not show the model number clearly on the photograph.
If anyone is interested I will email the photographs. Wonderful tone and loads of volume. Any information regarding this instrument would be appreciated. Please contact me at the above email address. Paul Dossett. I was just given an Aria acoustic Don't know a thing about it. The bridge has fallen off I do have it. Wondering is it worth fixing. Looked inside and it says Serial No. I just acquired a Mdl.
The LW had a laminated top, and as such was built like a tank, but it played really well and didn't sound bad and I never had to worry about stability or cracking. I traded it off a couple years ago to a co-worker and it still looks like new, short of some fret wear. The only infomation I have ever found is here: matsumoku. This catalog dates from the 80s. I think they came out early 80s and were made for most of the 80s.
They are 10 times the instruments they put out these days. I sent my coworker an email to get th serial number off the LW20 - I think based on my earlier searching its a production sequence number and maybe this will give you a ball park. Probably no help, but my friend just sent me a shot of the back brace stamp and it is for this mid 80s Aria.
So my earlier post that the guy I bought it from might be wrong; he must have bought it new in '86 or near the first of the year. This may not help either scribd. I would bet its after '87, and I have read before they started moving manufacturing to Korea. That usually throws the whole serial number thing out. Thanks for responding.
I have looked on a number of sites with no luck. It's not a big deal. I was just curious. The guitar looked old and smelled old so before I clean it up and put new strings on, I was just trying to date it. All Rights Reserved. Forgot Password. Luthier Search Hangout Merchandise.
